New York City Sunday Night Honky Tonks

    Hey Kids!
I will be setting up a residency gig at the Rodeo Bar on Sunday nights for a two month long stand February 14th – March 28th. That’s right, while we’re rehearsing the Broadway musical in which I am the musical director “Million Dollar Quartet” (opening April 11th at the Nederlander Theatre) I’ll be hosting “The Sunday Night Honky Tonk Session” at the good ol’ Rodeo Bar at 23rd & 3rd in the Hillbilly Mecca of New York City. I’ll have special guests every week and a lot of good Honky Tonk music. Should be a lot of fun bringing Lower Broadway to, I guess we’ll call it “Upper Broadway”.
    I hope I see y’all there!

    Happy New Year

Hey folks! I just want to wish you all a Happy New Year. Let’s hope it’ll be a good one. We covered lots of ground in 2009 and with a little luck, we’ll cover even more in 2010! Now don’t forget, on January 6th I’ll be playing a show here in Nashville out at the Loveless Barn for the Music City Roots Show. It’s a big benefit for the Nature Conservancy featuring Kristi Rose & Fats Kaplin, Tim O’Brien, Donna The Buffalo, The Believers and yours truly. As always, the show will be broadcast on WSM 650AM and simulcast on wsmonline.com. Tune in! And while you’re there, check out the archives for the big New Year’s Eve show that was broadcast from the Ryman Auditorium with The Old Crow Medicine Show. It was a fantastic way to ring in the new year! And on a blue moon to boot!
So I hope y’all ate your black eyed peas on January 1st and we’ll see you down the road.

Oprah Retires – Chuck moves to Broadway

OK so the Oprah part was just to get your attention. But Chuck really is going to Broadway in 2010. The musical in which he has been involved with as musical director for a few years, “Million Dollar Quartet” is moving to Broadway and will open in April at the Nederlander Theater. Everybody is truly excited and there are high hopes for the little Rockabilly play. It will continue on in Chicago though so if you’re near the Second City, drop by the Apollo Theater and check it out. Get some tickets first, however, because it’s a very popular show.

In other news, Chuck and his Grassy Knoll Boys will be making a short run in December doing two shows with Miss Loretta Lynn (one in Michigan and one in Pennsylvania) and a three night stand in the friendly environs of the Oneida Casino with honky tonk pals Heybale.

    Now those are shows!

Look in the Tour Dates section for details.

Don’t forget that CM and all The Grassy Knoll Boys will be at the legendary Ryman Auditorium with the fantastic Old Crow Medicine Show on New Year’s Eve. There will be a lot of guitar pickin’, steel moanin’, fiddle sawin’, foot stompin’, banjo flailin’, ballad yodelin’ and blues singin’. Many things are sure to get broken so get there early.

I know you have a choice in Honky Tonk music so thank you for choosing Chuck Mead. Drop by the web site anytime and we’ll see you down the road.

    Lower Broadway Last Night

    Hey Friends-

I want to thank everyone who came from all over (Oklahoma, Michigan etc.) to the Lower Broadway Honky Tonk Session last night. We had a wonderful time and I truly appreciate everybody’s participation in the proceedings. If I didn’t get to your request, I’ll try to make it up to next time. I will back down on Broad in the near future so keep an eye peeled for the notices!
